A21 – Wheeled Loading Shovel


This course will give you foundation training and assessment in operating a Wheeled Loading Shovel through a combination of classroom based tutorials and practical instruction.

Successfully completing the course will enable you to prepare and configure wheeled loading shovels for site and road travel, perform running checks and shutdown procedures, and safely use the machine for excavations.

Following successful completion of the CPCS Technical Tests, you will be eligible to apply for a CPCS Red Trained Operator Card.

Course structure

Undertake all pre-start, running checks and shut down procedures, mount and dismount

Explain precautions to be taken for underground and overhead services and other hazards

Prepare and configure the wheeled loading shovel for site and road travel

Place the machine in an out of service condition

Carry out excavations from an embankment of different materials and form stockpiles and ramps

Ensure load integrity and security

Explain loading/unloading procedures for machine transportation.

Course Elements

Long Duration:
5 days (4 days of training, 1 day of technical tests)

Short Duration:
2 days (1 day of training, 1 day of technical tests)

Entry requirements

Before taking the course you must:

You must have passed a CITB Health, safety and environment (HS&E) test no more than two years before attending this course.

You must have a good understanding of spoken and written English.

£410 for successful completion of the Practical Test
