A61 – Appointed Person (Lifting Ops)


This course provides training for managers and supervisors responsible for lifting operations, and teaches personal responsibility and safe systems of work during lifting ops.

The course informs candidates of up-to-date regulations as well as the codes of practice surrounding lifting ops, including how to interpret and apply sections 1, 2, 3 and 4 of the BS7121 Safe Use of Cranes guidelines.

Successful completion of the course provides a comprehensive understanding of different cranes and their associated terminology, and of crane stability and safety devices.

If you already hold the CPCS Code A40 Slinger/Signaller, on completion of this course you will also achieve the CPCS Code A62 Crane Supervisor qualification.

Course Elements

Five days (including CPCS Technical Tests)

Entry requirements

You should have sufficient experience of cranes to meet the requirements specified in British Standard 7121 Safe Use of Cranes.

You must have passed a CITB Health, safety and environment (HS&E) test for managerial and professional persons no more than two years before attending the course.

You must also have a good understanding of spoken and written English. Please contact us if you have any concerns in this area.
